Our Story

​The shortest distance between a person and the truth is their story.  The story of UJI is one of fate where two people met along a journey and became friends.  By joining us, you add your story to the Ubuntu journey.  There will not be a driver who picks you up at the airport, but a friend named Lucas Nandi Shamala, the founder of UJI.  When you get to the beach in Watamu, our host with the most, Suli, will greet you with a cocktail and then join you to share his story and discover a new kindred spirit.  Our sister Fariah will introduce you to her community with open arms, where you will learn about the brilliance of Kenyan culture and the daily struggle of women to be seen.  I am because we are, that is our story, and we hope to include you in the growing tapestry that is Ubuntu.
