  • What meals are included in the trip?
    Breakfast and dinners are included in the trips and will be elaborate enough so that we may be grabbing light lunch or snacks on the run at your expense. Remember, there are no McDonalds in Kenya, and you will eat local food that includes lots of vegetables, starches, seafood, and the occasional chicken. Vegetarian options will always be provided. We understand that local cuisine is essential to your trip; everybody has different tastes! We have also found that many of our guests enjoy the spontaneity of discovering restaurants on their own. On safari, all meals are included as you will be in remote areas without restaurant alternatives.
  • Is there Covid in Kenya?
    We will be tracking the prevalence of COVID in Kenya. Note that the incidences of COVID in Kenya are, currently far less than in the United States, but that is always subject to change. Please note that due to COVID-19, entry requirements for your destination may change at short notice. You have to test negative for Covid at least 72 hours before you enter the country. In the event there was a spike in Covid at the time of your trip, your deposit would be applied to a future trip.
  • Will I need additional vaccinations?
    Yes! Visitors entering Kenya are required to furnish proof of yellow fever vaccination in the form of an authorized certificate. The certificate is issued to you by your health care provider. If your provider does not offer these services, contact Passport Health which has clinics near you. Recommended Vaccinations for Travel to Kenya include Hepatitis A, Malaria (pill form), Meningitis, Rabies*, Typhoid and Yellow Fever.
  • Is it safe to travel to Kenya?
    As with travel in any foreign country, security is a shared concern. Kenya is no different. Like the US, there is a higher density of crime in urban areas and so we have organized the trip to be in rural and beachside communities. While the Covid pandemic remains a concern, incidences of Covid in Kenya are considerably lower than in the US, and the testing requirements ensure that the communities we will be visiting cannot be accessed without a negative Covid Test. The resorts where we will be staying have strict safety protocols in place. Overall the Kenyan people are gracious, welcoming and are hyper vigilant in ensuring our safety and well being.   • What should I know about taking luggage?
    Depending on the airline, baggage allowances usually include two 50 lbs. bags to be checked as well as a carry-on. Please note that the luggage allowance on your internal flights can be lower than the luggage allowance on your international flights, and thus, additional costs may be incurred for excess luggage on internal flights. For further information, please contact your travel consultant/trip coordinator.
  • Do I need to make a downpayment to ensure my spot on the trip?
    Yes. We limit each hosted trip to 15 travelers. To secure a spot on the trip, you must make a $500 nonrefundable downpayment. The remaining fee must be paid in full 30 days before the trip. Availability: Hotels, flights, and other components of your trip are subject to availability when booking. Please note that the availability of specific hotels can change daily, and we can only guarantee availability once the hotel reservations are confirmed. As soon as you have approved your trip booking by paying the deposit, we will begin the reservation process.
  • What Do You Need To Do In Advance of Travel?
    Have current Passport Vaccinations- there are a few required vaccinations to enter Kenya, that include Hepatitis A, Malaria, Meningitis, Typhoid and Yellow Fever. Consult with a doctor at least 8 weeks in advance to receive these inoculations. Some of this process can be confusing. We are happy to assist you in the process.
  • Is this adventure appropriate for older travelers or people with disabilities?
    That depends on you. If you are comfortable traveling off the beaten path without the comforts of your home, in most cases, we can customize the itinerary to your individual needs by selecting appropriate accommodations and activities. If you are traveling with a wheelchair, please let us know so that we can coordinate with airlines and partners where required.
  • Will my trip be designed to balance comfort and ‘off-the-beaten-track’ experiences?
    We will make every effort to make your trip comfortable and will make special accommodation for people requiring additional amenities. Off-the-beaten-track means different things to different people, and there are various ways to experience local culture. Whether you want to spend a day driving through the countryside or looking for something more rigorous – such as a remote trek or a homestay experience with a local family – we will do our best to accommodate your interests and desired comfort level.
  • What information will I need to have on me at all times?
    1. Your passport information. Your passport must be valid for six months after you return home from travel. 2. A color scan or photo of your passport to upload. After submitting your Guest Information, you will be prompted to upload a color scan or photo of your passport in JPG or PNG formats. Please disregard this step if you already provided this information to us. 3. Emergency contact information. Please select a person not traveling with you who can be contacted in case of an emergency. 4. Proof of Yellow Fever Vaccination.
  • What languages do they speak in Kenya?
    Kenya has two official languages, Swahili, spoken by the majority, and English which Kenya inherited from the British colonizers. While English is used in official matters, Swahili is much more commonly spoken by the people. The rest of the languages spoken are mainly tribal languages belonging to the Bantu, Cushitic and Nilotic language families, but Arabic as well as several South Asian languages are also spoken by immigrants. We encourage you to learn some basic swahili greetings prior to the trip, but know you will be perfectly able to communicate in English.
  • Is international airfare included in the cost of your website vacation packages?
    Flights to Kenya are not included in the price. A flight from Denver to Nairobi can range in price from $900 to $1200. Please note that all regional and local flights and any other transportation during your trip are included in the cost.
  • What if there are changes do to weather or unforeseen circumstances?
    The timings and dates of flights and activities may change due to changing weather conditions. We will do our best to keep the changes to a minimum. Still, it is impossible to guarantee exact timings for your flights and activities due to changes in schedules or unforeseen circumstances. Your trip coordinator will contact you throughout your trip and inform you about any necessary changes.
  • What is included in the cost of the trip?
    Your journey with Safina Safari covers every element of the trip from the first moment you land and are greeted by an UJI partner at the terminal. All accommodations, transfers, regional and local flights, and basic activities are arranged and included. Additional activities like safari, gorilla trekking, fishing, and kite surfing are not included in the base fee but are listed with prices on the website. All prices are below market value, and your guides on these excursions are all Safina Safari partners.
