Lucas Nandi Shamala is a remarkable individual who embodies the spirit of patriotism in Kenya. As a distinguished professor at the University of Kakamega, he has dedicated his life to education and community service. His journey is one of resilience and determination, shaped by his humble beginnings in Kakamega, the heart of the Luhya people in Kenya.

Despite facing numerous challenges, including coming from a large family of twenty siblings where education was not a top priority, Lucas persevered in his pursuit of knowledge. His time studying at the University of Denver in the United States not only broadened his horizons but also led to a lifelong friendship with Phillip Damico, which eventually sparked the idea for the UJI project.

His altruistic actions have earned him the nickname "MKOMBOZI" (savior) among the people he serves.

As Lucas continues to age like fine wine, his impact on the education sector and community development in Kakamega remains profound. His story serves as an inspiration to many, showcasing the power of perseverance, dedication, and a deep-rooted love for one's homeland.
